Trail of 100 Giants closed for cleanup by fire
SPRINGVILLE, Calif. — Beginning today, fire personnel on the Western Divide Ranger District are planning to clean up debris piles at the Trail of 100 Giants in the Giant Sequoia National Monument, Sequoia National Forest. The cleanup will be done by prescribed fire, when weather, fuel, and smoke conditions permit.
With a lack of winter weather, Tulare County has not yet closed the Western Divide Highway (M-107). Due to a concern for public safety with the highway open, the Trail will be closed while the prescribed burning is being done. Once the burned area has cooled, and the threat of fire spread minimal, the Trail will reopen.
Weather depending, it may continue to be closed through late-March. Visitors should plan to call ahead for Trail conditions (559) 539-2607 Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
